Anderson Medical Group and Charles A. Lane M.D. have been demanded to appear at a jury trial by the order of Third Judicial Circuit Court Clerk Thomas McRae at the request of lawyer David N. Damick and plaintiff Karen Bridges.

On June 3, 2021, Bridges was scheduled to undergo a laparoscopic sigmoidectomy overseen by Dr. Lane. The procedure was related to a suspected malignant polyp in her distal sigmoid colon. Lane performed the procedure but damaged or transected Bridges' left ureter in the process. While recovering from the surgery, Bridges began to complain about acute left-sided abdominal pain that increased over time. A CT scan of Bridges' abdomen and pelvis found that she had suffered a left ureteral discontinuity and injury with an abdominal fluid present. Bridges was then subjected to further operations and procedures in an attempt to resolve the injuries that culminated in the removal of her left kidney.

According to the official filing, as a result of both AMG and Lane, Bridges suffered from severe physical and emotional pain, disabilities, the loss of happiness and personal relationships, impairment in her daily life, repeated medical procedures related to the initial pain caused, inflammation, and infection caused by the aforementioned injuries and medical errors. It's also believed that Bridges will continue to suffer from an increased risk of injury, disease, and restriction in her life to protect her remaining kidney. Much of Bridges' damage is also permanent or will progress over time, requiring further treatment and medical costs.

For the above-stated reasons, both AMG and Lane have been sued for two counts each. Bridges accused both parties of failing to notice the damage done to her left ureter during the initial surgery, as well as the subsequent medical issues following it. Bridges is seeking a sum of money considered fair and reasonable to compensate for the damages and in excess of the $50,000 judicial limits of the court per count.
