BELLEVILLE – A woman has filed a medical malpractice claim against her dentist, alleging her teeth implants fell out after several ineffective oral surgeries.
Plaintiff Dawn Mott filed the lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Cody Whitworth, DMD and Beltline Dental, LLC, citing medical malpractice and negligence.
According to the lawsuit, Whitworth is a licensed dentist in the employ of Beltline Dental. Mott states that she was in need of dental surgery and visited the defendants for a consultation on Feb. 4, 2020. The defendants proposed extensive oral surgery, which included bone grafts, the removal of teeth and placing six implants.
The plaintiff states that on Feb. 18, Whitworth performed the surgery. She alleges the procedure was unsuccessful and she was left with repeated infections and severe pain. She claims she returned to the defendants for another surgery on June 9, but the second surgery again left her in intense pain with symptoms including headaches, swelling and tenderness in her jaw.
Mott claims she continued to receive ineffective treatment from Whitworth, who advised her that the course of treatment was normal and expected.
Mott alleges that on Nov. 8, 2020, an implant fell out of her mouth. She claims that on May 24, 2021, Whitworth attempted to attach permanent teeth to her jaw, but the new teeth were ill fitting and caused her severe pain. On Oct. 12, the upper denture installed by Whitworth fell out of her mouth allegedly due to inadequate implant support, the suit states.
Mott claims that as a result, she has sustained injuries which have caused her to experience pain, suffering, mental anguish, stress, humiliation, and embarrassment. Mott adds that she has incurred medical costs from extensive oral surgery and therapy to repair the damages.
The plaintiff is seeking compensation in excess of $50,000, plus interest, court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by the attorneys of The Simon Law Firm, P.C. in St. Louis.
