Lawsuits

BELLEVILLE – The family of a former St. Mary's Hospital resident claims he received negligent care, which allegedly led to his death.

Plaintiff Cora Oehmke, acting as special administrator of the estate of Marcus Oehmke, filed a wrongful death lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Maria Galanos, M.D., SSM Health and SSM St. Mary's Hospital, citing negligence.

According to the lawsuit, Marcus Oehmke was a resident at St. Mary's Hospital. The lawsuit alleges that March 18, Marcus died while in the defendants' care because the defendants negligently and carelessly failed to properly diagnose his condition in a timely manner.

Cora alleges that Marcus' next of kin has been permanently deprived of his companionship and that as a result they have suffered grief and sorrow. She also alleges they have incurred hospital, medical, funeral and other related expenses.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $75,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorney Thomas Q. Keefe of Keefe, Keefe & Unsell, P.C. in Belleville.
