EDWARDSVILLE – A man is suing the Gateway Regional Medical Center, claiming he was injured after slipping and falling in the hospital's parking lot.
Plaintiff Juan Villasenor filed the lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against the Granite City Illinois Hospital Company, LLC, doing business as Gateway Regional Medical Center, and Granite City Physicians Corporation, doing business as Heartland Healthcare, citing negligence.
According to the lawsuit, Villasenor was a visitor at the defendant's property on Aug. 16, 2022. He claims that as he was entering the medical building, he slipped on some oil and sand in the parking lot and fell. As a result, he suffered injuries.
According to Villasenor, the defendants negligently failed in their duty to properly maintain the premises to protect the safety of visitors.
Villasenor claims to have sustained injuries to his head, back, neck and other parts of his body which have caused him to endure pain, suffering, mental anguish and disability. He alleges his injuries will adversely affect his ability to enjoy daily life. He adds that he has incurred medical expenses and will continue to require the services of medical staff to recover.
The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. He is represented in this case by attorney Edward J. Szewczyk of Pratt and Tobin, P.C. in East Alton.
