U.S. House of Representatives passed four key veterans bills, including one introduced by U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) requiring the Department of Veterans Affairs to install on-site medical waste treatment systems to reduce the long-term cost for taxpayers. Bost’s VA COST SAVINGS Enhancement Act passed the House unanimously and now heads to the Senate for further consideration.“Each of the bills we passed this week will help create a better VA for the men and women who have served our nation,” said Bost. “Veteran patients deserve to know that the medical centers they trust with their care are clean and modern, and my bill will do just that. Those newly enrolled in VA healthcare deserve peace of mind knowing that their emergency room medical expenses will be covered. And both active duty servicemembers and veterans deserve to receive the educational assistance and benefits they have earned. These adjustments are long overdue.”
The House passed:
H.R. 502, To amend title 38, United States Code, to ensure that the Secretary of Veterans Affairs repays members of the Armed Forces for certain contributions made by such members towards Post-9/11 Educational Assistance, and for other purposes. (Rep. Banks)
H.R. 815, the RELIEVE Act, as amended. (Rep. McMorris Rodgers)
H.R. 753, VA COST SAVINGS Enhancements Act, as amended. (Rep. Bost)
H.R. 1226, the Wounded Warrior Access Act, as amended. (Rep. Aguilar)
