BELLEVILLE – The daughters of a woman who was found dead at her home after eight days claim Help at Home employees were responsible for taking care of their mother but failed to check on her.
Plaintiffs Angela Collins and Amy Bald filed the lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Help at Home, LLC and Regina Kizer, citing negligence.
According to the lawsuit, the plaintiffs allege their mother, Susan Mouser, died in her home on Feb. 8, 2021 and was not discovered until eight days later on Feb. 15, 2021, by an acquaintance. The lawsuit states that at the time of her death, Mouser had an agreement with Help at Home, LLC, which stated that employee Kizer assisted her with daily living at least five times a week.
The lawsuit alleged that the defendants negligently failed to honor their contract to come to Mouser's house and care for her as she laid dead there for more than a week.
The plaintiffs claim that as a result of the defendants' negligence, Mouser 's body became so decomposed that she was unable to get a proper burial according to her wishes. They state that they were unable to have an open-casket funeral and that Mouser's intact body would not be laid to rest by her husband's grave.
They claim that they have suffered, emotional distress, embarrassment and humiliation.
Collins and Bald are seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs, and punitive damages. They are represented in this case by attorney Pamela Antoniou Brennan in Belleville.
