EDWARDSVILLE – A healthcare worker claims she was wrongfully terminated after alleging the company was giving the wrong medications to patients.
Plaintiff Tameisha Y. Freeman filed the lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against the Marion County Horizon Center, Healthcare Management Corporation and Tamika Evans, citing discrimination and wrongful termination in violation of the Illinois Whistleblower Act.
According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff was employed as a Direct Support Person (DSP) by the defendants and was under the direct supervision of Evans. Freeman states that she worked from Oct. 22, 2022 until Jan. 2, 2023, when she was terminated from her position.
Freeman states that prior to her termination, she had reported to many of her fellow employees that the wrong medications were being given to the wrong patients, causing them to be at risk of injury. She alleges that in retaliation, the defendants began to treat her with animosity, harassed her, accused her of smelling of marijuana during working hours, forced her to work late, re-assigned her to less favorable positions and duties, blacklisted her to make her search for other employment difficult and ultimately terminated her from her position.
Freeman alleges he was wrongfully terminated in violation of the Illinois Whistleblower Act.
The plaintiff claims she has suffered loss of wages and benefits, emotional distress, mental anguish and damage to her reputation. She is seeking compensatory damages in excess of $50,000, plus punitive damages in excess of $50,000, court costs, interest and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorneys Brian M. Wendler, Angie M. Zinzilieta & Warren Benning of Wendler & Zinzilieta, P.C. in Maryville.
