A patient has voluntarily dismissed her lawsuit against BJC Medical Group and one of its physicians after claiming an untreated wound led to an infection in her bone.

According to court documents, plaintiff Holly Olmstead filed a motion to voluntarily dismiss her claims after her counsel moved to withdraw. The case was then dismissed without prejudice.

Olmstead originally filed the complaint through attorney Thomas Keefe III of Keefe Keefe & Unsell PC in Belleville on Aug. 3, 2020, in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against BJC Medical Group of Illinois and Herbert Biel, M.D.

Olmstead alleged that during a medical visit on Dec. 4, 2019, the defendants failed to order testing on the drainage of her wound to determine if any bacteria was present. She also claimed that on Dec. 20, 2019, they failed to adequately address her neck pain.

As a result, Olmstead alleged an infection went untreated and caused her to develop osteomyelitis. She claimed she had to undergo surgeries to correct the issues.
