Termination

EDWARDSVILLE – A former Speedco technician filed a wrongful termination lawsuit claiming he was fired for seeking worker's compensation benefits.

Plaintiff Richard J. Roach filed a lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against Speedco, Inc, Nathan Waterson and Jenre Macam, citing retaliatory discharge.

According to the lawsuit, Roach was employed as a technician by Speedco and was under the direct supervision of Macam and Waterson. The lawsuit states that on Jan. 6, 2021, Roach sustained an injury to his eye while under the employment of the defendants. He gave notice to the defendants that he would be claiming a worker's compensation covered injury.

Roach alleges that on Feb. 16, he was trying to return to work after being released from medical care but was told by the defendants that he had been terminated from his position.

Roach claims he was fired in retaliation for filing for a claim for worker's compensation benefits.

The plaintiff is seeking damages for lost income, benefits, emotional distress and damage to his reputation in excess of $50,000, plus court costs interest and any other relief the court deems proper. He is represented in this case by the attorneys of Wendler & Zinzilieta, P.C. in Maryville.
