BELLEVILLE – A Belleville Township School District employee is suing a parking lot maintenance company after he allegedly slipped on ice and suffered injuries.

Plaintiff James Fischer filed a lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Elite Properties and Landscape Construction, LLC, citing negligence and carelessness.

According to the lawsuit, Fischer was employed as a bus driver by the Belleville Township School District 201. He claims Elite Properties and Landscape Construction was reportedly contracted by the the same school district for parking lot maintenance, which included snow removal.

The lawsuit states that on Feb. 5, 2022, Fischer was entering the school office when he slipped on ice and fell, injuring himself. According to Fischer, the defendant negligently failed in its duty to properly maintain the premises to protect the safety of employees and visitors.

Fischer claims he endured pain, suffering, mental anguish, disability and lost wages. He alleges his injuries will adversely affect his ability to enjoy daily life and earn income. He adds that he has incurred medical expenses and will continue to require the services of medical staff to recover.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and any other relief the court deems proper. He is represented in this case by attorney Grey Chatham of Chatham and Baricevic in Belleville.
