EDWARDSVILLE – A wrongful death suit alleges a former Integrity resident received negligent care prior to her death.

Plaintiff Rachel Mitchell, acting as independent administrator of the estate of Barbara Feher, filed a wrongful death lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against the Alton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, LLC, doing business as Integrity Healthcare of Alton, citing negligence and recklessness in violation of the Illinois Nursing Home Act.

According to the lawsuit, Feher was a resident and patient at Integrity Healthcare of Alton from Jan. 22, 2021, to Jan 25, 2021. At the time of her admission, Feher was known to be at high risk for developing pressure sores and wounds because of her medical history. Despite this, the lawsuit alleges that during her stay at Integrity, Feher developed infections from severe sores and ulcers on her back and buttocks. Her injuries were allegedly untreated during her stay at the facility.

The lawsuit states that on Jan. 25, 2021, Feher was transferred to Alton Memorial Hospital to undergo treatment. She ultimately succumbed to her injuries on Jan. 28, 2021.

Mitchell alleges that as Feher was admitted into the defendants' care, she was a protected individual under the state's Nursing Home Care Act.

The suit states that Feher experienced pain, suffering, mental anguish, and ultimately died as a result of the defendants' negligence and carelessness. Mitchell claims Feher's death has caused her next of kin to suffer grief and sorrow.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorney Christopher M. Donohoo of The Donohoo Law Firm, P.C. in East Alton.
