BELLEVILLE – The mother and children of a woman who died when she was hit by a drunk driver are suing the establishments that sold the man alcohol until he became intoxicated.

Plaintiff Sheila Dancy, acting individually and as administrator of the estate of her daughter Ashley Dancy, and on behalf of Ashley's minor children Allona Dancy and Ayden Cade, filed a lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Mega Leasing Corporation, Inc., doing business as Pop's Nightclub & Concert Venue, Magna Trust, formerly known as Bank of Belleville Trust, Nextup Sports and Entertainment, LLC, doing business as Nextup Sports Bar and Grill, and Freeburg Development Corporation, citing negligence.

According to the lawsuit, on Feb. 26, 2022, driver Brandon Wilson was a patron at the Pop's Nightclub & Concert Venue and had bought and consumed alcoholic drinks until he became intoxicated. Wilson allegedly left the bar and drove away in an intoxicated state. The lawsuit states that Wilson was operating his vehicle eastbound on Illinois Route 15 when he rear-ended a vehicle driven by Ashley Dancy, pushing her into traffic where other vehicles collided with her vehicle. Dancy tragically died as a result of the collisions.

The lawsuit states that the defendants negligently sold alcohol to Wilson until be became intoxicated. The defendants' actions allegedly led to Wilson getting into a vehicular collision with Ashley Dancy's vehicle, ultimately killing her.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper for Asley's medical expenses, damage to her vehicle, expenses caused by her death, and her loss of support and society.
