EDWARDSVILLE – The family of a deceased woman claims she received negligent care from several healthcare facilities, which allegedly caused her to suffer necrotizing fasciitis and bone infections prior to her death.

Plaintiff Carl Storer, acting as independent administrator of the estate of Jerry Storer, filed a wrongful death lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against the Granite City Illinois Hospital Company, LLC, doing business as Gateway Regional Medical Center, Granite City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, LLC, Dr. Charles W. Ampadu, Adult Internal Medicine Practice, LLC, Dr. Kanubhai M. Patel, Dr. Gustavo von der Lancken and Granite City Clinic Corp., doing business as Gateway Medical Group, citing negligence and recklessness in violation of the Illinois Nursing Home Act.

According to the lawsuit, Jerry Storer was a patient at Gateway Regional Medical Center from Feb. 17, 2021, until Feb. 24. when the patient was discharged and admitted to Granite Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Storer stayed there until March 8, 2021. The decedent was then discharged and admitted to Regional Medical Center until Storer was discharged to go home on March 31. The lawsuit states that during Storer's stays at the aforementioned facilities, the decedent developed necrotizing fasciitis and bone infections. Storer died on Dec. 10, 2021.

Carl Storer alleges the defendants were negligent in their failure to properly recognize and diagnose significant changes in health conditions and failure to provide proper care to Jerry Storer. As Jerry was admitted into the defendants' care, she was a protected individual under the state's Nursing Home Care Act. The suit states that Jerry Storer experienced pain, suffering, mental anguish, and ultimately died as a result of the defendants' negligence and carelessness. Carl Storer alleges Jerry Storer's death has caused her next of kin grief and sorrow.

The plaintiff is seeking damages plus any other relief the court deems proper. He is represented in this case by attorney Ryan G. Webb of the Gori Law Firm, P.C. in Edwardsville.
