EDWARDSVILLE – A customer is suing the Highland Walmart after she allegedly collided face-first into a metal bar that was hidden among some clothing.

Plaintiff Lisa Richards filed a lawsuit in Madison County Circuit Court against Walmart, Inc., citing negligence and carelessness.

According to the lawsuit, Richards was a patron at a Walmart store in Highland on Dec. 29, 2020. She claims that while she was looking through a clothing rack, she leaned in for a closer look and banged her face against a metal hanging rod that was hidden in the clothes.

Richards alleges the metal rod was left there by a Wal-Mart employee after they put new clothes on the rack and failed to remove the metal bar.

The plaintiff alleges she sustained bodily injuries, which have caused her pain, suffering and mental anguish. She claims the injury left a scar that will disfigure her for life. Richards adds that she has incurred medical expenses because of the injury.

Richards is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorneys Ross A. Davis and Michael J. Gras of Davis and Gras, LLC in St. Louis.
