EDWARDSVILLE – A former Allied Waste Transportation employee claims he was wrongfully terminated for seeking worker's compensation benefits after he was injured on the job.

Plaintiff Eric Holt filed the lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against Allied Waste Transportation, Inc doing business as Republic Services, citing wrongful termination in violation of the Illinois Worker's Compensation Act.

According to the lawsuit, Holt worked as an employee of Allied Waste Transportation since 2004. Holt claims that on July 30, 2022, he sustained injuries on the job. He notified Allied of his injury and his intention to seek worker's compensation benefits. Holt claims that on April 20, 2022, he was terminated from his position. He alleges he was fired in retaliation for seeking worker's compensation benefits and exercising his rights under the Illinois Worker's Compensation Act.

Holt claims he has suffered humiliation, mental anguish, and loss of wages and benefits. He adds that Allied's actions will impact his ability to secure employment in the future.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. He is represented in this case by attorney Keith Short of Keith Short and Associates, P.C. in Alton.
