Licensed attorneys interested in judgeship in St. Clair County have until Jan. 9 to submit applications for two associate judge vacancies in the 20th Judicial Circuit Court.
According to a press release, St. Clair County Chief Judge Andrew Gleeson posted notice of the vacancies on Dec. 9 after it was authorized by the Illinois Supreme Court.
St. Clair County attorneys who are licensed to practice law in Illinois may apply by filing a signed application with Director Marcia Meis of the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts.
The vacancies come from the election of former associate judges Kevin T. Hoerner and Patrick R. Foley as circuit judges. Their elections were effective Dec. 5, leaving two open associate bench seats.
The vacancies will be filled by a vote of the elected circuit judges in St. Clair County, who are all Democrats.
The circuit judge seats Hoerner and Foley were elected to were previously held by Republicans Ron Duebbert and Stephen McGlynn, who now serves as a federal judge. Those seats were flipped during the Nov. 8 election, leaving no Republican judges on the St. Clair County judiciary.
