BELLEVILLE – A patient claims his x-ray was misinterpreted, which allegedly delayed his lung cancer diagnosis.

Plaintiff Michael Colin Murphy filed a lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Jay Wigboldy, M.D., Central Illinois Radiological Associates, LTD., and St. Elizabeth's Hospital of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, doing business as HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital, citing negligence and carelessness.

According to the lawsuit, Murphy was a patient of the defendants when he went in for an x-ray on Nov. 4, 2021. Murphy alleges the defendants failed to properly and accurately interpret the x-ray. As a result, Murphy experienced a delay in the diagnosis of his lung cancer, which allegedly led to permanent injury.

Murphy claims his injuries have caused him to experience pain, suffering, mental anguish, disability and lost wages. He alleges his injuries have impacted his ability to enjoy a normal life and earn income in the future. He adds that he has incurred substantial medical costs.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $75,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. He is represented in this case by attorney Thomas Q. Keefe, III of Keefe, Keefe & Unsell, P.C. in Belleville.
