EDWARDSVILLE - An Edwardsville attorney claims a solar company failed to install solar panels and then "permanently closed" after he paid more than $15,000 in a down payment.

According to the lawsuit, HeplerBroom attorney Matthew Champlin claims defendant Moxie Solar, LLC agreed to install the solar panels for $26,627. Champlin made $15,976 in partial "progress" payments with the contract calling for the remainder to be paid when the project was completed.

"Despite defendants having been paid all required progress payments, defendants have refused to begin installation of the contracted-for solar panels," the suit states.

Champlin alleges he contacted the company repeatedly and "on each occasion, defendants made excuses for the delay and promised installation would be forthcoming."

He claims news reports and online information indicate that Moxie Solar was "permanently closed."

Champlin seeks $16,306 in damages, plus court costs and fees.
