EAST ST. LOUIS - A shopper is suing a Mt. Vernon Menards, alleging she fell when she ran over a piece of improperly secured rubber stripping with her scooter.
Plaintiff Patrice Youngblood filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against Menard, Inc., citing negligence.
According to the lawsuit, Youngblood was a patron at a Menards home repair store in Mt. Vernon on Aug. 29. Youngblood claims she was suffering from a foot injury, which required her to use a leg support scooter. She alleges that while she was entering the store, she ran over a piece of rubber stripping that was not properly secured to the floor, which buckled and caused her scooter to stop suddenly. The incident allegedly caused her to fall onto the floor and suffer injuries. Youngblood claims she injured her shoulder seriously enough to require surgery to repair it and that she is still recovering from the surgery.
According to Youngblood, the defendant negligently failed to properly maintain the premises to protect the safety of its customers.
Youngblood claims she suffered severe bodily injuries, which have caused her to endure pain, suffering, and mental anguish. She alleges her injuries will impact her ability to earn income and lead a normal life. The lawsuit also states that Youngblood has incurred medical expenses and will continue to require the services of medical staff to recover.
Youngblood is seeking damages in excess of $75,000, plus interest, court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorney Lanny Darr of Darr Law Offices Ltd. in Alton.
