EDWARDSVILLE – River Crossing of Edwardsville is being sued after a resident died due to alleged negligent care.

Christy Wilkins, acting as special administrator of the estate of Elsie Wilkins, filed a wrongful death lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against Edwardsville NH LLC, doing business as River Crossing of Edwardsville, citing negligence and carelessness in violation of the Illinois Wrongful Death Act.

According to the lawsuit, Elsie Wilkins was a resident in the care of the River Crossing of Edwardsville nursing facility from May 6, 2021, to May 15, 2021. During her stay, the defendant allegedly knew Wilkins needed constant care and attention so that she would not become ill or injured. The lawsuit alleges the defendant had Wilkins placed in a hospital bed that she was unable to leave without assistance. As a result of her bed confinement, Wilkins reportedly developed severe infections and bed sores, which ultimately led to her death on May 15, 2021.

The plaintiff claims the defendant negligently failed to properly provide necessary care to Wilkins, allegedly resulting in her death. The suit states that Wilkin's death has caused grief and sorrow to her next of kin.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 plus attorney fees, court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. They are represented in this case by attorney Mark C. Scoggins of Crower & Scoggins, LTD in Columbia.
