HeplerBroom Environmental Attorneys Present Seminar on Environmental Hot Topics

Jennifer Martin, Alec Messina, Mike Murphy, and Melissa Brown will be the featured speakers at the Nov. 9, 2022, Environmental Lunch & Learn seminar sponsored by Three Rivers Manufacturers’ Association (TRMA). The four HeplerBroom environmental attorneys will be updating TRMA members on current hot topics in environmental legislation and regulation, covering areas such as environmental justice, the pending update to Illinois’ groundwater quality standard rule, and the ramifications of the Supreme Court’s decision in West Virginia v. EPA.

All four attorneys focus their practices on environmental law and are based in the firm’s Springfield office.

Martin, a partner, also represents clients in real estate transfers, including the purchase and sale of impacted properties. She has been named an Illinois Super Lawyer by Thomson Reuters and an Illinois Leading Lawyer by Law Bulletin Media.

In addition to his environmental law work, Messina, also a partner, spearheads the firm’s Government Affairs practice group. Prior to joining HeplerBroom, he served as Director of the Illinois EPA and was previously the Illinois Governor’s Policy Adviser on Energy and Environment.

Murphy, the third partner in the group, is an experienced litigator who defends clients in state-initiated enforcement actions and citizen lawsuits claiming injuries from environmental contamination. He has been named to the lists of Rising Stars by Illinois Super Lawyers and Illinois Emerging Lawyers by Illinois Leading Lawyers.

Associate attorney Brown is skilled in assisting clients with permitting, regulatory compliance, and litigation in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies. She has been named to Best Lawyers’ list of Ones to Watch.
