Illinois State Rep. Charlie Meier (R-Okawville) was recently recognized for his support of cooperatives that promote the expansion of renewable energy across the state.
According to a press release, the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives’ (AIEC) board of directors awarded the 2022 Illinois Electric Cooperative (IEC) Public Service Award to Meier in recognition of his voting record, which supports programs for sustainable, affordable and reliable electricity. The programs will also advance economic opportunities and boost quality of life for rural residents, according to the press release.

The award was presented to Meier at the AIEC annual meeting in Springfield.
“Our local electric cooperatives work 24/7 to meet energy demands that literally help keep our lights on in southern Illinois,” Meier said. “I appreciate their dedication to our communities and the services they provide.”
