EDWARDSVILLE - A Granite City man is suing his employer after suffering injuries when his foot was caught between a boat and a barge.

Jacob Almeter filed the complaint in the Madison County Circuit Court against SCF Lewis and Clark Fleeting LLC.

According to the complaint, Almeter claims he was working for the defendant as a harbor boat crew member on the Mississippi River on Feb. 23, 2021, when his right foot was caught between the boat and a barge. As a result, he claims he suffered a sprain.

Almeter claims SCF Lewis and Clark Fleeting "failed to warn plaintiff that the boat was about to come ahead" and failed to provide the means for proper communication of a warning.

He also claims the defendant "failed to provide plaintiff with sufficient training to enable him to perform his job duties safely."

As a result of his injuries, Almeter claims he endured pain and suffering and lost two days of work. He also alleges he incurred medical and hospital expenses.

Almeter seeks compensation of unspecified damages, plus legal costs. He is represented by Roy Dripps of Armbruster Dripps Blotevogel LLC in Maryville.
