Lincoln Surgical Associates, employees accused of negligence in wrongful death suit

BELLEVILLE – Lincoln Surgical Associates has been named in a wrongful death lawsuit alleging that negligence lead to the death of a resident.

Plaintiff Adria K. Albers, acting as special administrator of the estate of Marcel H. Albers, filed a lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Lincoln Surgical Associates, LTD., Donald Crouch, M.D., Ibrahim Elayyan, M.D., Islam Maroof, M.D., Cep America-Illinois Hospitalists, LLC, and St. Elizabeth's Hospital of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, citing negligence and carelessness.

According to the lawsuit, Marcel Albers was a patient in the care of the defendants from July 10, 2020 through July 12, 2020. The plaintiff alleges the defendants negligently and carelessly failed to properly timely monitor INR, know that Albers could require emergency surgery, failed to timely correct the INR, and failed to utilize fresh frozen plasma to correct the INR.

According to the lawsuit, Albers died as a result of the defendants' negligence and carelessness on July 12, 2020. The suit states that his death has caused grief and sorrow to his next of kin. 

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs, attorney fees and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorney Joseph A. Bartholomew of Cook, Bartholomew, Shevin & Cook, LLP in Belleville.
