BELLEVILLE – The Alton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center has been named in a wrongful death lawsuit alleging that negligence lead to the death of a resident.

Plaintiff Barbara Pykiet, acting as special administrator of the estate of Maxola Davidson, filed a lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against the Alton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, LLC doing business as Integrity Healthcare of Alton, and its employees, Ashley Boyles, Louis Gary, and Michael Richker, citing negligence and carelessness in violation of the Illinois Nursing Home Act.

According to the lawsuit, Davidson was a patient in the care of the defendants from March 2020, through June 9, 2020, and was therefore a protected individual under the state's Nursing Home Act. The plaintiff alleges that the defendants negligently failed to implement proper measures to prevent Davidson from developing pressure ulcers, failed to communicate skin breakdown to medical staff, and failed to follow proper medical procedures to treat pressure ulcers.

According to the lawsuit, Davidson died as a result of the defendants' negligence and carelessness on July 1, 2020. Pykiet alleges Davidson's death has caused grief and sorrow to her next of kin.

The plaintiff is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs, attorney fees and any other relief the court deems proper. She is represented in this case by attorney Joseph A. Bartholomew of Cook, Bartholomew, Shevin & Cook, LLP in Belleville.
