EDWARDSVILLE – A patron at Regal Beagle is suing the tavern after he was allegedly attacked by another patron with brass knuckles in a drunken incident.
Plaintiff Joshua Skelton filed the lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against defendants Cody A. Mills and Regal Beagle, Inc., citing negligence and battery.
According to the lawsuit, Skelton was a patron at the Regal Beagle tavern on June 27, 2021, when he was allegedly attacked by Mills, who was also a patron at the tavern. The plaintiff claims that Mills was intoxicated and was armed with brass knuckles. Mills allegedly struck Skelton in the face and body, causing him serious injuries.
Skelton claims he has suffered severe and permanent injuries to his head and face and disfigurement, which will affect his ability to lead a normal life and earn income in the future. The lawsuit also states that Skelton has incurred medical expenses and will continue to require the services of medical staff to recover.
The plaintiff included Regal Beagle in his complaint citing negligence. Skelton claims the tavern failed to provide sufficient security to supervise and protect its patrons.
Skelton is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs. He is represented in this case by attorney Joseph N. Reames of The Law Office of Joseph N. Reames, LLC in Wood River.
