EDWARDSVILLE - A customer claims he was injured when he slipped on ice while trying to leave his vehicle to pump gas at a Collinsville gas station.

Cory Stamps filed the complaint in the Madison County Circuit Court against Casey's General Store Inc.

According to the complaint, he visited the Casey's General Store on North Bluff Road in Collinsville on Jan. 21. He was attempting to pump gas when he allegedly slipped on "an unnatural accumulation of ice."

Stamps alleges the defendant carelessly and negligently failed to maintain the gas pump area, failed to treat the parking lot to prevent spills from freezing and allowed ice to accumulate. He also alleges the gas pump area had inadequate lighting.

Stamps claims the icy conditions presented an "unreasonable risk of harm"  to people walking in the area.

"Defendant knew or should have known that its customers would walk around the gas pump area before, after and during the act of pumping gas," the suit states.

As a result of the fall, Stamps claims he suffered injuries, endured pain and anguish, and incurred medical expenses.

Stamps seeks more than $50,000 in damages against the store. He is represented by attorneys Brady McAninch and John Hipskind of Hipskind & McAninch in Belleville.
