File000704919536

Attorney General Kwame Raoul is commemorating Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month by hosting a virtual “fireside chat” with the Honorable Edmond E. Chang, United States District Judge for the Northern District of Illinois. The event is open to the public and will highlight Judge Chang’s career and success as a federal judge. Raoul is encouraging Illinois residents to join the event scheduled on Tuesday, May 31 at 12:15 p.m.

“Judge Chang has led a distinguished career in Illinois and is an inspiration for many in the legal field,” Raoul said. “I look forward to a dynamic conversation to learn more about his life, his work in public service and his trailblazing record on the bench.”

Edmond E-min Chang received his J.D. from the Northwestern University School of Law in 1994. He served as a law clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals as well as the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. In 1999, he became an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Chicago and served from 2005 until 2010 as the Chief of Appeals for the Criminal Division.

Judge Chang was appointed to a federal judgeship on April 21, 2010 by former President Barack Obama. He was confirmed by unanimous consent by the U.S. Senate on Dec. 18, 2010 and received his commission two days later. At the time, Judge Chang was the youngest federal judge in the nation. He is the first Asian-Pacific American Article III federal judge in Illinois and the second APA Article III judge outside of the East and West Coasts.

Raoul is hosting the event in partnership with the Asian American Bar Association. Those wishing to participate can register on the Attorney General’s website.
