EDWARDSVILLE - A woman has sued Gorilla Express Auto Wash Inc. after allegedly tripping over a vacuum hose at a car wash on McArthur Drive in Cottage Hills.

According to the lawsuit filed May 3 in Madison County Circuit Court, Judy Newton claims the company had a duty "to exercise reasonable care for the safety of others" but placed the vacuum hose "in an area where they knew visitors of the car wash would walk."

The company allegedly failed to warn customers of the danger of the hose, the suit says. It also failed to adequately supervise the parking area to hoses from "laying loose on the parking surface."

As a result of the fall, which took place April 19, 2021, Newton suffered injuries to her head, including a concussion, right eye, left hand, left wrist and right knee, the lawsuit alleges.

Newton seeks in excess of $50,000 in damages from the business.

She is represented by attorney Samuel Mormino, Jr. of Alton.
