BELLEVILLE — A former Belleville nursing home employee claims she was wrongfully terminated after filing a worker's compensation claim.

Kelnesha Nelson filed a complaint in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against St Paul's Senior Community LLC, doing business as St. Paul's Senior Community.

According to Nelson's complaint, she was an employee at St. Paul's Senior Community in Belleville on Oct. 16, 2019. She claims she sustained work-related injuries during her employment. She alleges that while her worker's compensation claim was pending, she was terminated without cause. Nelson alleges she was wrongfully discharged in retaliation for her worker's compensation claim and suffered lost income, benefits and injury to her reputation in the community. She also alleges her credit rating was impacted, and she suffered other economic damages.

Nelson seeks compensation of more than $50,000, plus interest and all other just relief. She is represented by D. Jeffrey Ezra of Byron Carlson Petri & Kalb LLC in Edwardsville.
