BELLEVILLE – Belleville residents are suing their landlord after the ceiling allegedly collapsed on them.

Plaintiffs Donald Jones and Ernestine Slaughter, as legal guardian of Kilyla Jones, filed a lawsuit in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against defendants Tim Reeb and Handy Dan, LLC, citing negligence and carelessness.

According to the lawsuit, Jones was a lawful resident residing at a Belleville property owned, operated and maintained by the defendants. Jones claims that on April 20, 2020, the ceiling of the property's living room collapsed on top of him and Kilyla Jones, who was visiting him at the time.

The plaintiffs claim they have sustained injuries, which have caused them pain and anguish and will impact their ability to enjoy normal daily activities. The plaintiffs state that as a result of their injuries, they incurred medical costs and will continue to require medical care to recover from their injuries.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs and any other relief the court deems proper. They are represented in this case by attorney Grant A. Bosnich of Taxman, Pollock, Murray & Bekkerman, LLC in Chicago.
