A man claims his two-year-old child suffered injuries after finding a needle in their Casino Queen hotel room.

Darius Jefferson, individually and as father of Trinity Jefferson, filed the complaint on May 3 in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Casino Queen Inc. and CQ Holding Company Inc.

According to the complaint, Jefferson and his two-year-old child, Trinity, checked into a hotel room at the Casino Queen in East St. Louis on Aug. 1, 2018. While there, Trinity Jefferson allegedly found a needle or syringe and suffered injuries.

The suit states that Trinity Jefferson’s parents called an ambulance after their child was injured. Casino Queen allegedly asked for the needle, which was then taken by an employee and thrown away. As a result, the plaintiffs have been unable to submit the needle for inspection or analysis.

Following the incident, Trinity Jefferson allegedly became ill and has developed physical disorders, including asthma.

“As a result thereof, she has and will suffer pain and will continue to suffer pain in the future, has sustained a loss of future earning capacity, has been unable and is unable to lead a normal life, and has and will become obligated to pay for medical expenses in an endeavor to be cured of her injuries,” the suit states.

The plaintiffs claim the defendants had a duty to provide a hotel room that was safe and free of dangerous objects.

Jefferson claims the defendants negligently failed to locate the needle or syringe, failed to properly train its personnel to remove needles from the hotel rooms and failed to warn the plaintiffs that the room had not been properly cleaned.

The plaintiffs seek a judgment in excess of $50,000 each, plus court costs. They are represented by Ronald Roth of Roth Law Offices LLC in Granite City.
