EDWARDSVILLE - A bicyclist is suing a driver for allegedly running a red light in Collinsville and hitting the plaintiff as she crossed the street.

Melanie Davis filed the lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against defendant Michael Griffin, citing negligence.

According to the lawsuit, Davis was riding her bicycle and crossing the street where Vandalia intersects with IL-159 in Collinsville on April 27, 2020. Davis claims she was on the sidewalk and was struck by Griffin's vehicle as she entered the cross walk to cross the street. The lawsuit states that Griffin failed to stop at a stop light and yield to ongoing traffic when he struck Davis.

Davis claims she has suffered injuries to her head, neck and left arm, causing her to endure a disability as well as pain and suffering. She also claims she incurred medical expenses as a result of the collision and will continue to require the services of medical staff to recover.

Davis is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs. She is represented in this case by attorney Joslyn R. Sandifer of Sandifer and Associates, Attorneys at Law, LLC in Belleville.
