BELLEVILLE — A woman alleges a defective automatic door caused her injuries at a credit union branch in Belleville.

Christine Schiller filed a complaint in the St. Clair County Circuit Court against Scott Credit Union Community Foundation, alleging negligence.

Schiller alleges in her suit that she was at the Scott Credit Union Community Foundation branch on West Main Street in Belleville on Sept. 27, 2021. She claims that while using the automatic door,  the exterior door closed on her and caused her to suffer injuries to her back.

Schiller alleges the defendant is negligent for failing to properly inspect its automatic door and for failing to properly maintain and adjust the automatic door so that it would retract if contacting a person. She also alleges the defendant was negligent for selecting an automatic door that closed before a person could pass through the threshold.

As a result, Schiller claims she suffered injuries to her lower extremities and incurred medical treatment expenses.

Schiller seeks compensation of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by John Leskera and Justin Leskera of The Leskera Law Firm in Collinsville.
