EDWARDSVILLE — A motorist claims she was injured when a semi truck driver backed into her vehicle on an East Alton roadway.

Lauran K. File filed a complaint April 11 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Michael L. Adkins and R&S Express LLC, alleging negligence.

File alleges in her complaint that she was driving her Toyota Camry at the intersection of West St. Louis and Lewis and Clark Boulevard in East Alton on Feb. 1, 2021. She claims Adkins, who was driving a semi for R&S Express, collided with her vehicle while backing up on the roadway.

File alleges the collision caused her to suffer injuries to her neck, back and right knee. She further claims as a result of the collision, she suffered disability, disfigurement, loss of earning capacity and incurred medical treatment expenses.

File claims Adkins failed to keep a proper lookout and had a duty to lawfully operate his semi as to not cause injuries to her and others. She also claims Adkins was negligent for failing to reduce his speed and failing to break or maneuver to avoid the collision.

File seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Rodney Caffey of The Caffey Law Firm LLC in Godfrey.
