John C. Hanson has joined HeplerBroom as an associate attorney in the firm’s Edwardsville office. Hanson focuses his practice on the defense of litigation involving personal injury and products liability as well as governmental matters and election law.
Hanson obtained his J.D. from Southern Illinois University School of Law in 2016. He also holds an M.A. in Political Science from Eastern Illinois University and a B.A. in Political Science from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. While in law school, he was a research assistant to Professor George Mocsary and received a Hiram H. Lesar academic scholarship.
Prior to joining HeplerBroom, he served as a Madison County Assistant State’s Attorney, with experience in both civil and criminal matters. During his tenure, he brought a number of criminal prosecution jury trials to verdict. He also provided in-house counsel to the County on matters of governmental law, employment, and litigation. In addition to his State’s Attorney experience, he handled commercial and toxic tort litigation as an associate in a large St. Louis metro-area firm.
Hanson is licensed to practice in Illinois and is admitted to the bar for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois. He is currently serving as the 2nd Vice-President of the Madison County (IL) Bar Association and will assume the presidency in 2023.
