EDWARDSVILLE - A motorist claims he suffered several serious injuries when another driver failed to stop at an intersection.

Harold E. Cline filed a lawsuit on Feb. 24 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Victor L. Willeford, alleging negligence.

According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff was heading eastbound on Illinois Route 140 approaching the intersection with Illinois Route 160 on April 10, 2021. The defendant was traveling northbound on Illinois Route 160, which ends at Illinois Route 140 with a t-intersection. Northbound traffic on 160 had a stop sign with a flashing red light, which the defendant allegedly did not obey and collided with Cline's vehicle.

Cline alleges Willeford was negligent in failing to keep a proper lookout, failing to keep his vehicle under control, failing to stop at the stop sign and failing to yield the right-of-way.

Cline claims he was caused to suffer severe injuries including a left retinal detachment, a left calcaneus fracture, right calcaneus fracture and right distal tibial fracture, a sacral fracture, left wrist fracture, multiple facial fractures, traumatic brain injury, right rib fracture and multiple lacerations and hematomas.

He also claims he endured pain and suffering, disability and disfigurement, suffered past and future lost wages and diminished earning capacity, incurred medical expenses and suffered loss of enjoyment of a normal life.

Cline seeks a sum in excess of $50,000, plus prejudgment interest and court costs. He is represented by Eric J. Carlson of Byron Carlson Petri & Kalb in Edwardsville.
