EDWARDSVILLE -  A man is suing a nursing home following the death of his father.

Edward Drach, Jr., as administrator of the estate of Edward Drach, Sr., filed a lawsuit in the Madison County Circuit Court against Granite Nursing and Rehab Center, LLC, General Medicine, P.C., Louis Gary, M.D. and Kimberly Mitchell, APRN, alleging wrongful death.

According to the lawsuit, Drach Sr. was admitted to Granite Nursing & Rehab Center on March 10, 2020, after developing acute kidney damage. The plaintiff claims Drach Sr.'s condition was allowed to worsen while he was at the facility.

Drach Jr. alleges the defendants took improper care of his father, which ultimately led to his untimely death on April 14, 2020.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants were negligent in failing to ensure timely follow-up with physicians and hospital discharge, failing to diagnose acute kidney damage, failing to evaluate for the cause of acute kidney damage, failing to treat the underlying kidney disorder, failing to reduce the medication dosage or discontinue medication and supplements, and failing to treat the decedent's drop in hemoglobin level.

The plaintiff claims he was caused to suffer grief, sorrow and permanent injuries. He also claims he suffered damages to next of kin, deprivation of the reasonable value of his services, companionship, comfort, instruction, guidance, console, training, love and support.

Drach Jr. seeks an amount in excess of $50,000, plus court costs. He is represented by Leah A. Captain of Belleville.
