EDWARDSVILLE - A motorist claims another driver caused a collision while attempting to change lanes on Interstate 55.

Laschelle Dickerson filed a lawsuit on Feb. 15 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Steven Cassani for negligence and personal injury.

According to the lawsuit, Dickerson was traveling northbound in her vehicle on Interstate 55 near mile marker 8 on April 14, 2020. Cassani was also traveling north on Interstate 55 in the center lane. Cassani allegedly attempted to change lanes when he struck Dickerson's vehicle.

Dickerson claims Cassani was negligent in failing to reduce speed, failing to keep a proper lookout to avoid a collision, failing to use evasive maneuvers to avoid a collision, failing to be attentive, failing to obey the rules of the road, failing to use ordinary care and failing to exercise reasonable care in operating a motor vehicle.

The plaintiff was allegedly caused to suffer personal injury and pain, loss of enjoyment of life, medical bills, pain and suffering, disability and property damage.

Dickerson seeks an amount in excess of $50,000, plus cost of suit. The plaintiff is represented by Matthew P. Young of Kuehn Beasley & Young PC in Belleville.
