Woman alleges casino's 'defective' flooring caused her to fall

EAST ST. LOUIS - A guest at Harrah's Casino claims she the floor was in a "defective condition," causing her to fall and suffer injuries. 

Loretta DeLeon-Mares and Marc Mares filed a federal lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois against Southern Illinois Riverboat/Casino cruises, LLC doing business as Harrah’s Metropolis Casio, alleging negligence.

According to the lawsuit, the plaintiffs went to the Harrah's Casino boat to recreationally Gamble on May 16, 2021, and were walking in an area of the casino where guests are permitted to be. DeLeon-Mares claims that while walking, she fell due to a defective condition on the floor. 

As a result, she claims she suffered a broken ankle, spasms, strains, contusions, compression of the nerve and injuries to her back, neck, knee, arms and head. 

The plaintiffs claims the defendants were negligent in allowing dangerous conditions on the floor to exist and in failing to warn people in regard to the alleged defective and dangerous conditions.

DeLeon-Mares claims she was caused to endure pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement and permanent pain. 

The Mares seek an amount in excess of $75,000. They are represented by Michael Lawder of Michael Lawder Law Firm.
