Illinois Supreme Court issued the following announcement on Feb. 15.

Justice David K. Overstreet and the Illinois Supreme Court have announced the appointment of Chad M. Miller as a Resident Circuit Judge, Jasper County, in the Fourth Judicial Circuit.

Mr. Miller is being appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Daniel E. Hartigan effective January 30, 2022. The appointment will commence on March 4, 2022, and conclude December 5, 2022, when the vacancy will be filled by the winner of the November 8, 2022, general election. “Chad Miller is an outstanding individual whose involvement in and service to the Jasper County community is impressive,” Justice Overstreet said. “He will continue the tradition of honorable resident circuit judges serving Jasper County and will be a credit to the judiciary.” Mr. Miller has served as the Jasper County State’s Attorney since 2015.

Prior to this, he was in private practice as an associate attorney at the Law Offices of Bob Dunst in Mattoon for three years. From 2009 to 2012, Miller served as an Assistant State’s Attorney first in Hamilton County and then in the Coles County State’s Attorney’s Office.

“I am honored by this appointment and would like to thank Justice Overstreet and the Illinois Supreme Court,” Miller said. “I look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Jasper County and the Fourth Judicial Circuit in this new role.”

Mr. Miller earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University and his Juris Doctor from the Southern Illinois University School of Law. The Fourth Judicial Circuit encompasses Christian, Clay, Clinton, Effingham, Fayette, Jasper, Marion, Montgomery, and Shelby counties.
