Bost Introduces Bill to Get Toxic-exposed Veterans Lifesaving Care

Law2

IL U.S. House District 12 - Mike Bost issued the following announcement on Feb. 10.

U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) recently introduced the Health Care for Burn Pits Veterans Act. This bipartisan, bicameral legislation will expand eligibility for VA care to post-9/11 combat veterans who were exposed to burn pits and other toxins during their military service. The bill would also advance research into the health effects of toxic exposure and improve training for VA health care and benefits staff.

“As the top Republican on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, I have made improving support for veterans suffering from toxic exposure one of my highest priorities over the last two years,” said Bost. “To be clear, our work to improve benefits and services for toxic-exposed veterans will be far from over if this bill becomes law. But this will be a lifesaving first step for the many veterans whose time will run out if they don’t get the care they need now. I appreciate the bipartisan support for this bill from my House and Senate colleagues and from the veteran community.”

The Health Care for Burn Pits Veterans Act is supported by veteran service organizations, including The American Legion, and is cosponsored by 24 members of Congress. Senator Jon Tester (MT) has also introduced companion legislation, S. 3541, which has 17 cosponsors.
