All their fabulous faces should be seen

Our View
Stuartstevie

EHS principal Dr. Steve Stuart

The face is the most distinctive part of a human being. It differs in each person because of variations in the nose, eyes, and other parts of the face. It is because of these variations that people recognize each other and tell one another apart. Much of what goes on in a person’s mind finds expression in his face. A person’s facial muscles often show the kind of emotions he feels. He cannot always control his expression.

-World Book Encyclopedia

To all the school districts ignoring a judge’s order suspending school mask mandates, do the right thing: end your adherence to a cruel and pointless forced face covering rule.

The mandate is not being equally applied. Some teachers are not wearing masks in classrooms (and breakrooms) - or have them dangling from their ears - and the same goes for "compliant" students.

At Edwardsville High School, principal Dr. Steve Stuart became a member of the imperfect face covering club on Tuesday, as seen mask down in the virus free zone, the school cafeteria (he wasn’t eating at the time). For shame.

On the other hand, a few conscientious objecting students are being isolated without benefit of instruction as a form of in-school suspension. They don't get to eat in the cafeteria where no one except for food workers are required to mask.

Also, a few non-compliant staffers were sent home, without pay, and cited for insubordination.

Enforcing the forced face covering rule is making you look like you care more about power and control and less about the one job you have. Our children do not deserve one more minute of it.

You seek obeyance, while you disobey a court order. How ironic.

You say that maskless students are not being disciplined for their actions. That's gaslighting.

You say you support respectful protest, but ask for police intervention after honking cars drove past schools and the administrative office – at lunch time. How else to get your attention?

History will not reflect kindly on this time; it will be forever stained.

Stop denying our children their humanity. Their faces are fabulous and should be seen.
