Greensfelder Hemker & Gale PC. issued the following announcement on Feb. 3.

Greensfelder is pleased to announce the winners of our 2021 Firm Values Awards. In December 2021, we collected nominations to recognize employees who exemplify our six core values: Quality, People-Focused, Ownership, Equity, Collaboration and Determination.

Since the firm’s founding in 1895, Greensfelder’s core values have been guiding employees and have helped shape our firm culture, guide our client service and fuel our growth. The firm’s core values also are the basis for the environment others can expect to experience when working at Greensfelder.

The following recipients were selected for their valuable contributions to the firm.

The Quality Award is presented to Jesi Cochran-Buss, Litigation Support Manager. Jesi was nominated by several who acknowledged her as an e-discovery expert. They pointed out her strong work ethic, reliability, thoroughness, and responsiveness. Jesi was noted for cultivating teamwork and providing exemplary service to clients.

The People-Focused Award is presented to Russell Scott. Russell is committed to working with staff, attorneys and firm management to make the Southern Illinois office a pleasant and productive workplace. He demonstrates care and commitment to firm clients, the community, the office and the firm. One nominator noted, “There is simply no person more involved with his colleagues and community partners than Russell. You literally cannot go anywhere in Southern Illinois where you don't run into someone who knows and respects him.”

The Ownership Award is presented to Mike Messner, General Services and Facilities Assistant. Mike was nominated for his always pleasant and helpful approach to work. Many acknowledged that Mike goes above and beyond for everyone, no matter how big or small the job task. Mike is being recognized for his hard work, dedication, and exceptional service, both proactive and responsive.

The Equity Award is presented to Carmen White. Although Carmen is the Firm’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Manager, equity is not just a part of her job, it’s her passion. Carmen exudes enthusiasm for making the firm a place where everyone’s outcomes can match their potential through her work on the Retention Committee, DEI Growth Enabler Group, Associate Recruiting Committee and Community/Pro Bono Group. Carmen has been recognized internally and externally for her commitment to equity, and her collaborative sprit with law schools and other organizations has raised the profile of the firm.

The Collaboration Award is presented to Abby Risner. Abby was nominated for her collaborative spirit and commitment to cultivating opportunities for those with whom she works. Abby leads by example and is always willing to jump in and work beside her colleagues. When there is a problem, Abby does not look to assign blame, but instead focuses on working with others to find solutions. She is quick to acknowledge hard work and express gratitude. Abby leads the Energy Industry Group, serves as the Associate Compensation Committee Chair, participates on the Retention Committee and has contributed to advance various other firm initiatives this past year.

The Determination Award is presented to Paul Petruska. Paul started in the Southern Illinois office at the start of the pandemic, which was understandably a difficult time, but was nominated and acknowledged for getting involved and collaborating with multiple attorneys and practice areas. Paul has shown great determination in everything he has done since joining Greensfelder, brought an endless supply of energy to the Southern Illinois office and helped raise Greensfelder’s visibility externally. Paul takes a team-based approach to work and business development, continually looking to connect with and include others.
