EDWARDSVILLE - A man is suing the owner of a pit bull that allegedly attacked him without provocation.

Andrew Hale filed a lawsuit on Jan. 6 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Brandon Lewis, alleging negligence and violation of the animal control act.

According to the lawsuit, Lewis was the owner of a pit bull named "Capone." Hale claims he was a visitor at his mother's home a few houses down the street from Lewis' residence on Aug. 24 when he was attacked without warning by the pit bull.

Hale alleges Lewis failed to properly train the dog to prevent it from attacking others, failed to properly restrain the dog, allowed the dog to roam at large and failed to control the dog and prevent its access to humans on adjacent premises.

Hale claims he was caused to suffer disability, loss of a normal life, disfigurement, pain and suffering, medical expenses, damage to personal property and will continue to suffer these losses in the future.

Hale seeks an amount in excess of $100,000, plus costs and pre-judgment interest. Hale is represented by Matthew P. Young of Kuehn Beasley & Young in Belleville.
