EDWARDSVILLE - A nursing home is accused of neglecting a resident in a suit alleging he suffered injuries that contributed to his death.
Sonya Cole, as administrator of the estate of Curtis Cole, deceased, filed a lawsuit on Jan. 12 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Granite Nursing and Rehabilitation Center LLC and Aurora Care, LLC doing business as Tara Cares LLC, alleging survival act, negligence and wrongful death.
According to the lawsuit, Curtis Cole was a resident at Granite Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the time of his death on Jan. 14, 2020. Sonya Cole alleges that during Curtis Cole's time at the center, he suffered from the development and deterioration of pressure sores, urinary tract infections and sepsis. She also claims he was not properly cared for and was neglected by staff, contributing to his death.
Sonya Cole alleges the defendants failed to protect the decedent from neglect by failing to provide adequate medical and personal care, failing to provide necessary services to attain or maintain his highest well-being, failing to provide services and care to prevent his decline, failing to provide treatment, failing to appropriately assess his change in condition, and failing to develop and implement or revise and update communication to care staff to address risks.
She also claims they failed to administer treatment and medications, failed to reposition the decedent regularly, failed to prevent pressure sores, failed to perform and document daily skin assessments, failed to timely notify his family or physician regarding changes, failed to provide restorative rehabilitation, failed to properly train care staff and failed to promote the care of residents in a manner than enhances their dignity and lives.
Curtis Cole was caused to suffer pain, personal injury, disability and disfigurement and incurred medical related expenses, the suit states.
Sonya Cole seeks an amount in excess of $50,000, plus court costs. She is represented by Ryan T. McNulty of Thomas Law Offices in Chicago.
