EDWARDSVILLE - A motorist sues another driver for allegedly causing a collision while attempting a make U-turn.
Suzanne E. Manns filed a lawsuit on Dec. 28 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Samuel E. Stephens, Avery Washington and To Serenity and Beyond, Inc.
According to the lawsuit, Manns was driving westbound on Highway 143 near Lock and Dam Way on Aug. 29. Stephens was traveling eastbound when he attempted to make a U-turn and blocked the eastbound lane, causing a collision with the plaintiff's vehicle.
Manns alleges Stephens was negligent in keeping a proper lookout, failing to give an audible warning to ensure safe operations, changing lanes of traffic without determining such action could be done safely, operating a cellular device while driving, driving his vehicle in a reckless manner, making an illegal U-turn, failing to warn Manns of impending collision, failing to yield to the right-of-way, failing to obey traffic control device, failing to drive on the right half of the road and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Manns claims she was caused to suffer pain, loss of a normal life, disability, medical bills due to treatment and severe damage of the vehicle.
Manns seeks a settlement in excess of $50,000, interest and cost of suit. Manns is represented by Brian M. Wendler of Wendler & Zinzilieta PC in Edwardsville.
