EDWARDSVILLE - A man is suing Ameren for allegedly interfering with his ability to work as an electrical line man.

Chad Mosley filed a lawsuit on Dec. 21 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Ameren Illinois Company d/b/a Ameren Illinois for tortious interference with prospective economic advantage and promissory estoppel.

According to the lawsuit, Mosley began working for Ameren in December 2008. In 2020, Mosley began considering resigning from Ameren and seek employment with electrical contractors. In May 2020, Ameren implemented a Post Separation Presence on "Ameren Illinois Property Ameren Illinois Operations Guideline" that permanently bans separated employees from working for a contractor on Ameren property. The guideline was implemented after Mosley allegedly had a conversation with his supervisor about possibly looking for another job. The guideline was then amended to add that a separated worker who left the company in good standing could not work on Ameren Illinois property for at least 90 days following separation.

In July 2020, Mosley resigned from his position at Ameren, and did not work for a contractor on Ameren Illinois property for one-year following his resignation. Instead, he claims he had to travel and be away from his family so that he could work. Mosley then took a job that required him to work on the defendant's property, and Ameren sent an e-mail asking that Mosley be released because he was not allowed to work on the property. Mosley has been unable to work as a lineman any closer than a one hour drive from home due to Ameren and its interference in Mosley having work.

Mosley seeks damages in an amount greater than $12,000, plus costs. Mosley is represented by Patrick K. Shinners of Schuchat, Cook and Werner in St. Louis.
