EDWARDSVILLE - A motorist alleges another driver collided with her parked vehicle while backing up in a Wood River parking lot on Christmas Eve.
Angela Betts filed a lawsuit on Dec. 20 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Austin Bothwell, alleging personal injury.
According to the lawsuit, Betts was parked in a store parking lot in Wood River on Dec. 24, 2019, when Bothwell allegedly collided with the plaintiff's car while backing up.
Betts alleges Bothwell failed to stop his vehicle at the appearance of danger in order to avoid colliding with another vehicle, drove his vehicle without keeping sufficient control, drove a vehicle without keeping a proper lookout and failed to equip his vehicle with adequate brakes.
Betts claims she was caused to suffer severe and permanent injuries internally and externally, mental anguish, loss of a normal life, prevention from attending to usual duties and affairs, pain and suffering and future pain and suffering.
Betts seeks a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs. Betts is represented by Timothy Hulla of Brown & Brown LLP in St. Louis.
