EDWARDSVILLE -- A man is suing a Collinsville restaurant after he allegedly fell while exiting the building because there was insufficient lighting.
Phillip E. Coady filed a lawsuit on Dec. 6 in the Madison County Circuit Court against D.I.P Restaurants LLC, doing business as Horseshoe Lounge.
According to the lawsuit, Coady was on the premises of Horseshoe Lounge in the parking lot on Dec. 28, 2019. Coady claims he was walking out of the restaurant when he tripped and fell due to negligence of the restaurant in maintaining the entrance and exit for patrons.
Coady claims was caused to suffer severe and permanent injuries as well as pain, discomfort, mental anguish, disability, disfigurement, loss of a normal life, impaired ability to participate in normal activities and incurred medical expenses.
He claims the defendant failed to turn on the lights at the entrance of the restaurant when it was dark outside, failed to provide sufficient lighting, failed to maintain safe ingress and egress during the nighttime, failed to make reasonable inspections, failed to warn about the unlit entrance and allowed a parking block to be located close to the entrance.
Coady seeks a judgment for an amount in excess of $50,000. He is represented by Patrick J. Sheehan III of Sheehan & Sheehan Lawyers PC in Springfield.
